Overview

A graceful pink city associated with opera and romance, Verona is a delight to explore with performances from June-August. Set 20 minutes south of the city and 4km/3 miles from the small town of Vigasio, Villa Zambonina is also within easy driving distance of Lake Garda, 20 minutes, and the very pretty village of Sirmione on its southern, palm-fringed shore. An area as good for grapes as it is for golfing, three famous wine regions - Bardolino, Soave and Valpolicella - and two 18-hole courses all lie within in hour's drive of the property. Longer excursions might include Milan, Mantua, Padua and Venice, all easily accessible by train or car. Expect to put on a few pounds during a holiday in this area, where the specialties include rich risottos and creamy polentas; as an antidote, there are wonderful walking and biking routes through the vineyards and especially along Lake Garda.

Guest wing/Ground floor
Guest wing accessed via an independent entrance or through the main house. Large living room. Kitchen opening to the Italian garden.

First floor
Double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with bath. Twin bedroom [convertible to double] with ensuite bathroom with shower. Two single bedrooms sharing a bathroom with shower.

Grounds
A magnificent formal park with a lovely informal pool area. A shady, vine-covered loggia with a barbeque and garden furniture faces the gated pool, 15 x 8m/49 x 26 feet, and looks out to a lawn edged with cypresses. A pool house with changing rooms and an outdoor shower stands nearby. Swings for children.

Assistance:
Assistance is provided locally by the property's helpful caretaker, who speaks English and lives in a separate house on the grounds. Services included in the rental fee, and optional services available, are noted under Price and Availability.

Access
Airports: Verona [Catullo], 20 minutes; Venice [Marco Polo], 1 hour 30 minutes; Milan [Malpensa], 2 hours. Railway station at Verona, 14km/9 miles. Motorway exit at Verona Sud, 11km/7 miles along paved roads. Parking for nine cars.
Activities
Tennis and golf within 10 minutes. A bicycling itinerary around Lake Garda, designed by Bicitalia, is available online at www.bicitalia.org/laghi/index.htm (mainly in Italian...) Shopping; in Milano, about 1 hour 15 minutes by train; Mantova, about 50 minutes.

Pool details : The pool has a depth of 1.6-2.2m/5-7 feet and a ladder for entry/exit.

Amenities for children: Two cots/cribs and one high chair.

Additional notes about the property: Note that a road can be heard from the garden and from certain rooms. The rice produced from the estate is available for purchase.
